Mayors for Peace implements the Youth Exchange for Peace Support Program that hosts young people from member cities in Hiroshima to have them join existing programs in which they can learn about hibakusha’s messages and meet people from various backgrounds. This support program hopes to have them deepen their understanding of the realities of the atomic bombings and thus be encouraged to engage in peace activities in their own cities, which focus on the abolition of nuclear weapons.
In each program, in addition to the existing content produced by each host organization, Mayors for Peace conducts its own programs such as a briefing on Mayors for Peace and testimonies from A-bomb survivors.
Given all the current uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, the Youth Exchange for Peace Support Programs will not be held in 2023.
