Bonn, Germany, hosts a planting ceremony for a second generation A-bomb tree

Report from the Bonn University Botanic Gardens

In 2016 and 2017, the City of Bonn, Germany, received seeds from A-bomb trees, such as Kurogane holly, Japanese hackberry and Muku tree, from Mayors for Peace. The Bonn University Botanic Gardens has raised these seeds and they have grown into seedlings.

In conjunction with the International Day of Peace, which was celebrated during the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Botanic Gardens of Germany, a Muku tree seedling was planted in the premises of the Bonn University Botanic Gardens.

A planting ceremony was hosted by the City of Bonn which was attended by Dr. Monika Kappel, Vice Mayor of the City of Bonn; Dr. Tsukasa Iwashina, President of the Japanese Association of Botanic Gardens; Prof. Dr. Maximilian Weigend, Director of the Bonn University Botanic Gardens and approximately 120 representatives of various botanical gardens.
