The Challenge of Multicultural and Gender Diversity and Coexistence

August 2025

Report by Ms. Jacqueline Cabasso, Executive Advisor of Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation

I was excited to be asked to facilitate a breakout session on the Challenge of Multicultural and Gender Diversity and Coexistence, one of six topics, during the August Mayors for Peace General Conference in Nagasaki. I chose this topic, because in the United States, where I live, multiculturalism and gender diversity are under attack by an administration that seems intent on rolling back the incremental and hard-won progress that has been made over the past century to address historical injustices and provide greater equality for women, people of color, and gender diverse people.

Unfortunately, I tested positive for Covid on August 9. It was a very mild case, but in the interest of precaution, I stayed in my hotel room and was not able to participate in the conference that day. However, I’d like to offer my prepared introductory remarks at the following link: https://pdflink.to/f1ab7479/
