Workshop: ‘What does peace mean to me?’

October 2, 2026 [Germany, Chemnitz]

On 2 October 2026, students from Chemnitz took part in a workshop at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz as part of the Mayors for Peace network. The event focused on the question: “What does peace mean to me?”

At the beginning, the participants were given a short guided tour introducing them to selected works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. After that, they explored the topic of peace creatively by producing their own artworks. They used a variety of techniques and materials, including coloured pencils, graphite and acrylic paints. This resulted in a wide range of personal interpretations and ideas of peace.

Alongside the workshop, the exhibition “Peaceful Towns – What Peace Means to Me” was on display in Chemnitz until the end of September. It featured works by pupils and students from the previous year. This year, children and young people from Chemnitz once again have the opportunity to take part in the international art competition organised by Mayors for Peace.

The workshop gave the participants the opportunity to engage with the topic of peace from both an artistic and a personal perspective and to express their own thoughts and views.
