The technical team of the Catalan Chapter of Mayors for Peace meets to promote the 2021 action plan

Last Thursday, March 18, the technical team of the Catalan Chapter of Mayors for Peace of Catalonia met virtually to monitor the actions taken and land the activities of the action plan approved by the executive committee. The team is made up of representatives from the cities of Calella, Figueres, Flix, Gavà, Granollers, Igualada, Manlleu, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, as well as the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Catalan Fund for Development Cooperation.

The meeting served to introduce the new members of the technical team, define and schedule the actions to be carried out this year and establish the criteria for the operation of the team. Among the most important activities are the organization of a day around the International Day for Peace and the promotion of the ‘Cities of Peace’ campaign in support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This plan of activities is part of the strategic lines defined by Mayors for Peace and the European section of the organization.

Among the objectives of the network is to consolidate the Catalan section, promote advocacy in relation to issues of peace and global justice, strengthen the communication strategy, encourage municipalities to join the ‘Cities of Peace’ campaign and develop and implement local agendas for peace and coexistence in the territory.

The team undertook to work over the coming months in the revitalization and projection of the network, so that the more than 200 member municipalities in Catalonia can participate in the activities, as well as in the organization of a workshop, the nourishment of the web calendar of local events and peace education resources and getting more municipalities to approve the motion in support of the Treaty.
