On the occasion of the International Day of Peace on September 21, a discussion was held in a high school in Hannover with about 100 students (aged 15 to 16 years) and their politics teachers as well as some interested visitors.
The event entitled “No more Hiroshimas!” consisted of survivor testimonies of the atomic bombing shown on DVD, which was provided by the Mayors for Peace Secretariat. The introduction was given by Deputy Mayor Hermann who reported of his experiences at the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima and Henrik Herwik who interned at the Mayors for Peace Secretariat. The subsequent discussion with the students was moderated by Roland Freitag, political scientist at the Institute for Didactics and Democracy at the Leibniz University of Hannover. The Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Poster Set as well as the signature list of the Hibakusha Appeal was displayed as accompanying and supporting material.
The event was organized by the Mayors for Peace Office in the City of Hannover in cooperation with the German-Japanese Society in Hannover and the Association of Christian Boy Scouts.
