February 18, 2016 [Frogn, Norway]

Report from Mr. Thore Vestby, Honorary Mayor of Frogn, Norway

On February 18th, the Honorary Mayor of Frogn, a Vice President of Mayors for Peace, met Mr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mr. Takht-Ravanchi was a senior member of the negotiating team for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and the E3/EU+3 in July last year, and was visiting Norway this February for two days to head the Iranian economic-trade delegation.

During his brief meeting with Mr. Takht-Ravanchi, Honorary Mayor Vestby handed him a letter from President Matsui, Mayor of the City of Hiroshima. This letter expresses respect for the tremendous efforts made by Iran and others involved in reaching this agreement, as well as hope for faithful and comprehensive implementation by all sides. It also commends Iran for its thirty-fold increase in Mayors for Peace membership in three years – the largest single-country increase in membership in the world

Honorary Mayor Vestby extended his best wishes to Mr. Takht-Ravanchi and asked for his kind support for the activities of Mayors for Peace.
