On November 5th, 2015, Mayors for Peace French Chapter, AFCDRP (Association des Communes, Departements et Regions pour la Paix), held its annual General Assembly in Paris. More than 20 member city representatives took part in lively discussions on implementing a culture of peace at the local level and abolishing nuclear weapons.
Various cities’ representatives shared information on initiatives they implemented in their cities and their plans for the end of 2015 and for the following year. Among other activities in 2015, several cities, including Grigny, the Chapter’s President City, Gonfreville-l’Orcher, Dieppe and Villetaneuse, organized events such as exhibitions to commemorate the 70th Anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. All participants also held special events for International Peace Day on September 21st.
Several promising plans for 2016 were discussed. Among other projects, the French Chapter plans to host a series of Hiroshima Junior Marimba Ensemble concerts in September 2016 in member cities for International Peace Day.
