Commemorating the nomination of Halabja as the Capital of Peace by the Parliament of Iraqi Kurdistan in January 2015, the City of Haralja celebrated the International Day of Peace this year with a big ceremony on September 21. During the ceremony, Mayor Khder Kareem delivered a speech on behalf of Mayors for Peace. Many white flags representing peace in Kurdistan culture were displayed at the venue and school girls participating in the ceremony held the white flags. There were many other activities at schools in Halabja for the same purpose.
