On August 6th, the City of Cuernavaca hosted an event at the Cuernavaca City Museum titled “Uniting for Peace”, which commemorated the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It was attended by about fifty people including those from local governments, academic, artistic, and cultural institutions, and members of the Japanese community living in the state of Morelos. There was also participation from the Japanese School of Morelos and the presence of Mr. Sadayoshi Kogiso, who is the representative of the Japanese Association of Morelos and a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

At the start of the commemoration, there was a minute of silence for what happened on August 6, 1945 out of respect for all the victims of this terrible incident. Afterward, the historian Gustavo Garibay gave an overview of the Hiroshima bombing, followed by the musician Sergio Quiroz who played three songs in Japanese. At the end of the commemoration, there was a guided tour of the Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-bomb Poster Exhibition displayed at the event venue.
