June 16, 2015 [Ituzaingo, Argentina]

On June 16th in the city of Ituzaingo, an orgami paper crane workshop was held by Ms. Tomoko Aikawa who is the founder of “Fundacion Sadako,” an NGO on peace and environmental education, and also serves as a Hiroshima Peace Ambassador, as designated by the City of Hiroshima.

The workshop was held at Municipal Kindergarten No. 908, which has incorporated origami into the curriculum in order for children to deepen their understanding on peace and life with nature. There was a welcome reception in the morning where Mr. Marcelo Nadal, Chairperson of Ituzaingo City Council, remarked upon the city’s membership to Mayors for Peace since 2010. Mr. Nadal also explained how the city places emphasis in the education of its children on nurturing a global perspective as well as the importance of peace and nature. Approximately 240 people participated in the event, including the five-year-olds, their parents, and education officials from neighboring cities such as Matanza and Haedo.

The thousand paper cranes created by participants will be delivered by Ms. Aikawa to Hiroshima City, which faces the landmark 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing, this summer.
