The annual Peacemarch held as an example of how a community can raise awareness for peace and solidarity

December 16, 2011 [Grindavík, Iceland]

On December 16, 2011, the annual Peacemarch was held in Grindavík, Iceland. Students from the local kindergartens, elementary school and music institute along with teachers and parents walk together in total darkness with flashlights. The aim of the march is to promote peace, solidarity, positive thinking, joy and love in the community. Older students take care of kindergarten students.
Reverend Gísladóttir gave an address on peace and the group sang christmas carols together. Every year it is a very festive ceremony.

Grindavík is a municipality of 2.800 inhabitants and there were over 1.000 participants in the march.

Thought this might be of interest for the organisation as a small example of how a community can raise awareness for peace and solidarity.
