Letter of Request Calling for the Promotion of Actions to Aid in the Early Realization of a “Nuclear Weapons Convention” submitted to the Japanese government

On January 17th and 18th, 2013 the Second Mayors for Peace Japanese Member City Meeting was held in Nagasaki city. The submission of a Letter of Request to the Japanese government to call for promotion of actions for the early realization of a “Nuclear Weapons Convention” was decided at this meeting. On February 1st, Mayor Matsui of the City of Hiroshima and Mr. Tokumitsu, the office manager at the Tokyo Office of the City of Nagasaki representing Japanese member cities of Mayors for Peace met with Foreign Minister Kishida and submitted a Letter of Request to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in reference to promotion to address the early realization of a “Nuclear Weapons Convention”.

Minister Kishida said “We would like to address the issue in an effort to realize a world without nuclear weapons carrying out coordination with you all with acknowledgement of every contribution of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Mayors for Peace”.
