Report by Ms. Paula Helena Santos, the Municipality of Évora, Portugal

Against the backdrop of the theme Vagar, which inspires the concept of Évora 2027 – European Capital of Culture, and marking the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2025, Évora City Council hosted a Youth Meeting Mayors for Peace, which took place on May 20th at the Armazém 8 venue in Évora.

Welcomed with opening remarks by the Vice-President of the City Council, Alexandre Varela, several dozen young people from Évora and other Portuguese cities that are part of the Mayors for Peace Network were in attendance. In addition to the Portuguese participants, special mention goes to the delegation from Granollers, the Spanish city leading the European network of this multinational organization.

The meeting featured a workshop led by Vera Alvelos, a specialist in performing arts and education. The aim was to promote activities that encourage healthy communication among young people and, through art, provide tools for reflection and the promotion of the culture of peace.
