The Ambassador of Japan and the Mayor Mark the 79th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: “Never Again!”

“May peace prevail on earth!” said Masato Iso, then Ambassador of Japan to Croatia, at the commemoration for the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which was held in Biograd on the evening of August 6, 2024, and invited all those present to pray for the Japanese cities that suffered nuclear destruction, but also for all the victims and bereaved families suffering as a result of constant wars around the world.

In his speech in Croatian, the Japanese ambassador thanked Mayor Knez for organizing the fifteenth commemoration in a row, which this year gathered in front of the crane monument on the Biograd waterfront, together with high representatives of Japan and culture attaché Sakino Funaki, the Austrian MEP Hannes Heide, the Mayor of Bjelovar and President of HSLS Dario Hrebak, Mayor of Obrovac Anta Župan, Mayor of Polača Tomislav Prtenjača, President of Biograd City Council Ivana Stamičar, Head of Biograd City Administration Drina Bešenić, President of GO HDZ Biograd Šime Mršić, permanent representative of the City of Biograd in the organization of Mayors for Peace Jasminka Bajlo and numerous citizens of Biograd.
