International Day of Peace has been celebrated by the people of Halabja every year since the city was nominated as the Capital of Peace by the Parliament of Iraqi Kurdistan in 2015. At this year’s ceremony, Mayor Kwestan Akrem delivered a speech on behalf of Mayors for Peace. The special guests were children who lost their fathers in the war with ISIS. Together they painted the dove of peace in rainbow colors and received a gift from the mayor.
