University of Indianapolis Group Conducts its First Hiroshima Peace Study Tour
From Tuesday, May 11 to Thursday, May 13, 2010, a class from the University of Indianapolis ( U.S.) carried out its first Hiroshima Peace Study tour. The new intensive three-week course "Hiroshima Peace Study" started in May of this year was recognized as a Hiroshima-Nagasaki Peace Study Course effective April 1st, 2010.
Eleven participants including six students and five professors studied peace issues while experiencing Japanese culture.
They visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and other facilities exposed to the A-bomb. They gained knowledge about the reality of the A-bombing through such activities as listening to an A-bomb survivor's testimony, a tour of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) and a lecture by Dr. Neriishi, Assistant Department Chief of Clinical Studies and Dr. Douple, Associate Chief of Research of the RERF.
At a recitation of A-bomb poems at the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall, Indianapolis students read poems they composed.(The poems are posted below )
