Mayor of Hiroshima delivered a speech at Waseda University
On Saturday, July 12th 2008, Mayor Akiba of Hiroshima delivered a speech at Waseda University entitled "The path to a peaceful world, free from nuclear weapons: The 21st century-people solving their own problems". About 300 students attended with the Mayor. Waseda University has a long established Hiroshima-Nagasaki peace study course.
In his speech, Mayor Akiba introduced the reality of the atomic bombings and the experiences of A-bomb survivors. He stressed the importance of efforts by citizens and cities toward the total elimination of nuclear weapons, and the significance of actions based on ideas of what one can do for humanity in the future.
