In the evening on January 29th, the City of Mirano held an event titled "The bomb today without tomorrow - for a world free from atomic bombs" at Teatro Villa Belvedere, Mirano. This event was held in collaboration with the National Association of the Italian Partisans (ANPI) and the Venetian cultural association, Nemus, in order to further contribute to the realization of a world without nuclear weapons.
The event was chaired by the journalist Roberto Lamantea.
After Mayor Maria Rosa Pavanello of Mirano delivered her greetings, presentations were made by: Alessandro Pascolini (physicist, Human Rights Centre, University of Padua) on the evolution of nuclear strategies; Alberto Madricardo (philosopher, Nemus-philosophy), on what humanity has not done and what could do to prevent a nuclear war; Francesco Macaluso (architect, Nemus-geography), on the environmental aspects related to nuclear weapons and on the notion of Environment for redefining the image of the world and of ourselves.
Bruno Tonolo (ANPI) concluded the event after a participated discussion and Erica Brandolino (City council member) invited all citizens to sign the Mayors for peace petition for a nuclear weapons convention.
