All of the Municipalities of Nicaragua Have Joined Mayors for Peace
(World’s First Country to Have All Cities Become Members!)

Mayors for Peace registration forms from all Nicaraguan cities
Mr. Martinez, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Nicaragua in Central America, has made a book of registration forms for Mayors for Peace for all 153 Nicaraguan cities and handed it to the Japanese Ambassador to Nicaragua. The book of registration forms arrived at Hiroshima City through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 4th. As of April 1st, the total number of memberships for the Republic of Nicaragua accounts of 155 (153 cities, 1 prefecture and 1 administrative district). Having all of the cities in a country join Mayors for Peace is a world’s first.

Mayors for Peace will do everything in our power to abolish all nuclear weapons by 2020 by spreading such movements across the world.

July 7, 2008Mr. Pablo Fernando Martinez Espinoza, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure visited Hiroshima. We asked for his support to increase our membership in Nicaragua. Minister Martinez kindly called for Nicaraguan cities to join Mayors for Peace when he went back to Nicaragua.-
Aug. 6H. E. Mr. Saul Arana Castellon, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to Japan, visited Hiroshima to attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony.-

Oct. 27Mayor Akiba met Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, President of the 63rd UN General Assembly, at the UN Headquarters in New York and asked for support for Mayors for Peace with CANT petitions (370,221 signatures).-

Apr. 24H. E. Mr. Saul Arana Castellon, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to Japan, visited Hiroshima to meet Mayor Akiba and visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.-
May 7Mayor Akiba met Father Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, President of the UN General Assembly at the Embassy of Nicaragua in Washington DC.-
July 23Mayor Akiba asked for support for the activities of Mayors for Peace at the Meeting of Ambassadors to Latin American and Caribbean Countries [GRULAC] in Tokyo. H. E. Mr. Saul Arana Castellon, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua attended.-

Aug. 8Father Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, President of the UN General Assembly, made a speech at the 7th General Conference of Mayors for Peace in Nagasaki.-
Nov. 21 prefecture, 46 cities and 1 administrative district joined Mayors for Peace.120
Jan. 15, 2010Mayor Akiba visited the Embassy of Nicaragua in Tokyo, and had a meeting with H. E. Mr. Samuel Santos, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Arana of Nicaragua and asked them for their support.-
Jan. 16 - 18Mayor Akiba visited Nicaragua, and attended the meeting of AMUNIC (Association of Nicaragua Municipalities) on Jan. 18. The news that all 153 cities will become members was released. President Daniel Jose Ortega Saavedra awarded Mayor Akiba the Cultural Order Ruben Dario.-
