Dispatching a delegation to the Second Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons
Mayors for Peace sent a delegation to the Second Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons (*) held on February 13 and 14, 2014 in Naya:rit, Mexico, in order to call on national governments to take actions for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Also, at the conference we distributed the “Damage Scenario Resulting from a Nuclear Attack: Brief Summary of a Study by the City of Hiroshima,” which describes the outcome of the 2007 study regarding an estimate of damage caused by a nuclear attack and possible response actions. The purpose of the study was to communicate to people around the world the massive scale of devastation that cities will face in the case that nuclear weapons are used.
Remarks by Secretary General Komizo
Mayors for Peace delegation led by Mayor Thore Vestby of Frogn (Norway),Vice President of Mayors for Peace and Secretary General Komizo attended the conference. Mr. Komizo spoke at a question and answer session after the Hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) presentation.

Following the conference held last March in Oslo, Norway, the Government of Mexico hosted the 2nd conference, providing an arena for a discussion about various consequences of the use of nuclear weapons from a scientific point of view.
