2020 Vision Phase Ⅰ
From November 2003 to June 2005, the 2020 Vision Campaign focused on the
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Process. In 2004, we took a delegation
of 27, including 19 mayors and deputy mayors, to New York to attend a preparatory committee
meeting. In 2005, we took a delegation of 167 to the Review Conference itself. Of
the 80 cities attending, 51 were represented by their mayors.
From 2003 to
2006, Mayors for Peace succeeded in:
・Establishing
the vision of a nuclear-weapon-free world by 2020
・Inspiring new activism among the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of activists
and concerned citizens who took up the vision and worked to recruit or
collect signatures from their mayors
・More
than doubling its membership from less than 600 in 2003 to 1403 as of July
2006.
